Early Psychosis Intervention Program (EPI) - Fraser Health

Provides early identification and treatment for first episode of psychosis. For residents (aged 13-30) of Abbotsford, Agassiz, Burnaby, Chilliwack, Delta, Hope, Langley, Maple Ridge, Mission, New Westminster, Surrey, Tri Cities, & White Rock.
Provides early intervention for schizophrenia spectrum, bipolar psychosis, and brief psychotic episodes.For youth and young adults aged 13-30 living in the Fraser Region. This program is for youth and young adults who:
  • Present with a First Episode of Psychosis or a suspected psychosis, including co-occurring substance use and mood condition
  • Individuals with a family history of psychotic disorder and experiencing a recent decline in functioning
  • Individuals undergoing long-term treatment are not eligible for this service

Three catchment areas served:
  • Fraser South: Surrey, Delta, Langley, White Rock
  • Fraser East: Chilliwack, Abbotsford, Mission, Agassiz, Hope
  • Fraser North: Burnaby, Tri-Cities, Maple Ridge, New Westminster

Includes First Episode Psychosis or any of the following that suggests a person may be at developing psychosis:
  • apparent changes in behaviour, thoughts, and emotions
  • family history of psychosis
  • recent deterioration in daily functioning

Basic early psychosis services provided include:
  • complete assessment of symptoms and physical functioning
  • medication management
  • case manager
  • family support and education
  • client education
  • treatment of problems in living and other mental health issues

In addition to these basic early intervention services more comprehensive services may be offered including:
  • groups
  • vocational rehab programs
  • medication side effect monitoring, healthy living programs
  • research and opportunities to participate in studies
  • community and public education

Anyone can refer including self-referral.
A 24-hour after hours Crisis Line is also available. This number is provided to clients if they are experiencing increased symptoms during the time that the offices are closed. The crisis line provides clients with any emotional support needed and connects clients to various resources in the community.
